TRB to Present Webinar on Developing Pavement Performance Models

by Transportation Research Board | Sep 13, 2017

                                  trb
TRB will conduct a webinar on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM ET that provides guidance to state and municipal roadway authorities on how they may improve the prediction capabilities of their pavement management systems by incorporating recent advances in performance prediction models. The state-of-the-art of developing performance models has advanced through a more comprehensive study of statistical and computational techniques. However, some of these advances have not made their way into industry practice. This webinar will provide an overview of the available tools for developing and validating pavement performance models and examples of successful model development and implementation by state and municipal agencies.

This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Pavement Management Systems.

Some registrants will need to pay $95 to attend this webinar. Sign into MyTRB.org to view registration information.

Webinar Presenters:

- Sui Tan, Metropolitan Transportation Commission
- David Luhr, Washington State Department of Transportation
- Yichang (James) Tsai, Georgia Institute of Technology
- Aleli Osorio, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile

Moderated by: Nima Kargah-Ostadi, Fugro

Webinar Outline:

State-of-the-art overview
- Overview of the statistical and computational tools for data processing and model development
- Methods for improving and validating the prediction capability of performance models
State-of-the-practice overview
- Performance modeling challenges for a state highway agency
- Example of a success story from a municipal agency
- International perspective: developing project-level models using field data
Question and answer session

The first 60 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions. The Registered Continuing Education Program (RCEP) categorizes this webinar activity as relating to health, safety, and welfare including core technical.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- List the available statistical and numerical tools for processing data
- Understand how to select the appropriate computational or statistical technique for developing performance prediction models
- Describe the methods used to evaluate and improve the prediction capability of performance models
- Describe best practices for implementation of new performance modeling techniques

Professional Development Hour Information:
A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) will be provided to Professional Engineers (PEs) who register and attend the webinar as an individual. For groups, only the person that registers and attends the session will receive a PDH certificate. Certificates of Completion will be issued only to individuals who register for and attend the entire webinar session.

Individuals registered as Florida PEs are no longer required to email TRB with your license number to report your attendance. Instead, please use your certificate that TRB provides through RCEP.net as verification of your attendance to the Florida Board of Professional Engineers.

Please check with your licensing board to ensure that TRB webinar PDHs are approved by your board.

This webinar was developed in March 2017. TRB has met the standards and requirements of the Registered Continuing Education Program (RCEP).
